Today Cimolai will have to pull the sprint VivianiHe asked him. Cassani summoning him for the Adriatica Ionica Race, which starts this morning and will finish on Friday in Comacchio. Take a sprinter who still has to renew his contract and ask him to to be the last man for someone who was his rival during the three weeks of the Giro and he got lower results and then we'll see what happens. Cimo said yes.

«It was worse in 2018 – admits the Friulian – when I was taken to the European Championships and I outsprinted Trentin who won. It was August and I was without a contract.Anyone else would have done their sprint, but if you give your word, that must be it. Elia will represent us at the Olympics and he must do well, preferably by winning.Today's stage would have been a goal for me too, but the team withdrew my registration due to three positive cases among the staff. And at this point, I accepted the call-up and Cassani's clear rules.

Friends forever

“Cimo” and Elia are both from 1989 and they have been running together since they were childrenThey were at Marchiol among the under 23s, then also at Liquigas, before both went their separate ways.

«In these cases – explains Cimolai, who has just become a father – First comes the fact that we are professionals and then the friendship which really comes from a long way back. I haven't been last man since I left the Fdj, but on Sunday during training I still went to watch the finish in Aviano. I think I got a good look at it, you come to a roundabout on a slight descent and as soon as you exit it, you will be 200 meters away. It's a… rather dangerous arrival, in fact for me the finish line will be at the roundabout."

Is there a big difference between being the last man and the starting sprinter?

Day and night, as between an entrepreneur and an employeeIf you have to sprint, you have the weight of the race on your shoulders. And it's a real weight, so much so that some are better at being a domestique. The day is less stressful.

Does having the ultimate strongman make a big difference?

A lot. That's what I missed at the Giro. I never asked to have 3-4 riders in front of me, but At least someone who could take me to the sprint moment would have been nice.

Have you renewed your contract?

Not yet, I'm in negotiations.

Would a victory today in Aviano change things?

Not a lot, but I still think that I would have done it even if the victory had been important for the renewal.

How will you sprint?

Usually I tend to do it sitting down, like GuarnieriThen it depends on the sprinter. Gaviria, for example, prefers Richeze to start from the front and sprint, but in my opinion, that's a way that hurts the sprinter.

What does your season finale involve?

Italian Championships and then Livigno with my family. I'll return to Wallonie, where I won two years ago, then I'll head to the Vuelta, which features six sprints. The real projection is on the European championships in Trento and then on the world championshipsI would love to wear those two shirts.

What did you miss to win a stage at the Giro?

I have only one regret. On the day of Canale when Taco Van der Hoorn won, I was very disappointed because the teammate I had with me, Patrick Bevin, he didn't sprint and did his sprint(in the opening photo, the two Israel teammates are next to each other, ed.). I didn't win the other stages because someone went faster or due to a series of circumstances.

What is life like as a family man?

My partner Alessia is very good, because she gets up at night when Mia has to eatBut it's demanding, I realize that. But my daughter is beautiful. Look here, I'll show you the photo...
