- juniors They represent a transitional category that sees the alternation of names and results. However, when a name capable of winning emerges, two consecutive Italian titles in cyclocross and multiple road races, it's a good idea to make a small note in your notebook. However, the timing shouldn't be rushed, Samuele Scappini will turn eighteen on April 24th And when he answers us, he's just closed the schoolbook he was studying from. So let's tiptoe into getting to know the Umbrian, emerging talent of the Team Fortebraccio.

You just returned from your first World Cup call-up. What was the experience like?
Being called up to the national team was wonderful. It was my first timeI set out to do well. But there were some setbacks that prevented me from expressing myself to my fullest.
What kind?
Fifteen minutes before the start I made a standing start and found myself with the handlebars in my handWith the carbon torn. So I had to change bikes.
And the other drawback?
After departure 300 meters from the start there was a I fell and got involvedI started again but the race was already compromised. A series of events that made me lose concentration and clarity and I only finished 45°.

An unlucky World Championship, we could say. However, your cross-country season boasts 12 victories, including your second consecutive Italian title...
I was considered the favorite by everyone. I kept my feet on the ground with that shirt, which in my head I wanted to win back and confirm. So it was.
Take us to that day…
I had my legs and my concentration was at its peak. I took the first few corners well, immediately gaining 20 meters. Then I gradually increased my lead and crossed the finish line with a 40-second lead.
Your category has been criticized for your commitment to away games for the Azzurri. What did you perceive from within?
I've always felt good in the national team. I get along with everyone, I don't get angry easily. We have to work and follow what they tell us.

Let's get to the road. Are you getting ready yet?
Starting tomorrow, I'll start training to get the season off to a great start. My goal is to become a road racer. To do that, I have to win races and I know it won't be easy.
Besides cross and road, do you also compete on the track?
Yes, absolutely. With my skills, I think I can carry it forward and I feel it will be useful to me.
Which specialty do you like the most?
I really like the kilometer from a standstill. I'm explosive and I feel like I can do well.
Are you discovering your potential? What kind of rider are you?
If there's an uphill finish, let's say I'm not the favorite, but I'll give it a shot. I'm not a climberIf you arrive with a small group I can have my say. I feel like a flatland sprinter and I also really like the slightly uphill finishes where you have to push.

When does your season start?
The first races will be at beginning of March, but we haven't drawn up a schedule yet. I'll start preparing, then we'll see.
Have you set any goals for yourself?
I hope to do good in the Italian championship because it would be the icing on the cake for the junior category. Two cyclocross titles and one road title would be the best. My two dreams for 2023 are go to the World Cup and the European Championship.
If the goals for road and cyclocross are tricolor, what about the track?
I don't feel like I have any particular aspirations. At the national level, I feel like I can have my say, and then whatever comes my way is earned.
