Let's talk about the Zoncolan Challenge for Small-Houses, a charity event organized on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September in Ovaro, in Carnia, right at the foot of the legendary and fearsome Friulian climb.
The main protagonist of this enterprise will be Valter Franz, Joseph's father, a seven-year-old boy with severe autism. The more attentive will remember Valter himself, who in 2020 took on the Giro d'Italia by bicycle, aiming to learn, and try to better understand, firsthand, a world still too distant from the needs of those who face it daily...
An important challenge
But what is the Zoncolan Challenge for Small Houses? This wonderful event It does not identify a race, there are no rankings. It is a completely charitable cycling and running event, wanted and organized by Valter Franz himself which this year was also able to count on the valuable collaboration of the Marco Pantani Onlus Foundation, in addition to that provided by many other friends. The goal? A single and precise aim, that of raise as much funds as possible for the projectA forward-thinking project that doesn't overlook any aspect of the challenges of autism. It doesn't forget that every person deserves their own dignity. A project that represents a real hope for the present but also for the "After us", according to the law in force since 2016 that protects the rights of severely disabled people left without family support.
But why the choice of Zoncolan? Simple, because the Friulian climb is very tough, but never as difficult and complex as everyday life of all those families who have to deal with the problem of autism.
And then, after his solo Giro d'Italia just two years ago, Valter Franz gets back into the game by climbing the Ovaro side of Monte Zoncolan eight times At intervals of just three hours: starting Saturday, September 10th, at 4:00 PM, and lasting for 24 hours!
