World Bicycle Relief aims to distribute durable bicycles in rural areas of developing countries, specifically designed through philanthropic and social enterprise programs.
Last year Trek decided to give its contribution to the association by creating the prototype of a special bike, the Buffalo Bike, electing it as their bike of the yearThis is a bicycle designed to tackle the difficult road and environmental conditions typical of developing countries.
Trek didn't stop at the design stage, however. The American company has promoted an invitation to the entire cycling community to contribute with a free donation towards the purchase of Buffalo Bikes producedTrek then went further, deciding to match any donation made, thus helping to double the number of bicycles produced.
Goal achieved
The ultimate goal that Trek had set itself was the surpassing $1 million in donationsIn just two months, this figure has not only been reached, but even far exceeded. In the end, the amount raised was $1.818.918, which will now be able to provide more than 11.000 Buffalo bicycles. to students, healthcare workers, farmers, and small business owners. Thanks to this unique, sturdy and easy-to-repair bicycle, they will be able to overcome the obstacle of daily travel.
Buffalo Bike will be made available to needy populations in African and South American countries where World Bicycle Relief operates, including Zambia, Kenya, Colombia and Zimbabwe..
Some curiosities in terms of numbers. In just under two months, more than 7.000 donations have arrived from individuals and organizations in 27 different countries.The average amount was $171,51. The United States was the country with the highest number of donations. The largest number of donations were made online through Trek's official website.
