Trek is increasingly proving to be a company with a "noble" soul, attentive to the world around her and wants to be an active part in safeguarding it. Recently the Waterloo company presented its 2021 sustainability report. The latter highlighted the important steps forward made in the field of reduction of environmental impact of their production processes.
Now comes a new one important social initiative in collaboration with World Bicycle Relief, a charity that aims to offer growth tools to those who cannot afford them.

A special bike
As part of the collaboration Trek has decided to contribute to the creation of a prototype of a special bike with World Bicycle Relief, the Buffalo Bike, electing it as its Bike of the Year. This is a bicycle designed to tackle the harshest road and environmental conditions. typical of developing countries. For this very reason, it must be solid, reliable, and easy to repair.
In these situations, the bicycle becomes a fundamental tool for getting around, both as a means of work and transportation. Children and teenagers use bikes to go to school, overcoming the barrier of the often great distance that separates their homes from places of education.

The bicycle is often the only means available to healthcare workers to reach patients Homebound. Their daily fight against diseases like malaria and COVID-19 is more effective because they can move more quickly to spread the word about basic hygiene and nutrition. With a bicycle, farmers and small entrepreneurs can give new impetus to their businesses, transporting larger quantities of products to more distant places, thus increasing their earnings and improving the living conditions of their families. Two-wheeled pedal vehicles are also a means of emancipation for women, who can move freely and safely, accessing education, healthcare and commerce.
Everyone's contribution
Trek’s contribution to the initiative implemented in collaboration with World Bicycle Relief did not stop at just the design of the Buffalo Bike. The American company has in fact promoted an invitation to everyone to contribute to the purchase of Buffalo Bikes producedFor example, a donation of 147 euros will cover the cost of a bicycle. Donations of a smaller amount are also possible. And there's more: until December 31st, Trek will match any donation made, helping double the number of bikes produced. Thanks to the donations received, World Bicycle Relief will be able to improve the mobility of people who cannot afford their own means of transport.
