Pinarello recently officially announced the launch of a new six-episode docu-series, entitled “Fausto Talks”, in which Fausto Pinarello himself shares the history and secrets of some of the most iconic bicycles from his extraordinary personal collection. The series aims to offer a unique look at the innovations and transformations in cycling design through the stories of those who designed, created, and saw these bikes in action.

The first episode is dedicated to a fundamental chapter in the history of cycling: the enterprise of Miguel Induráin, who exactly thirty years ago set the Hour Record, marking a milestone in the discipline. The feat took place on September 2, 1994, at the Vélodrome du Lac in Bordeaux, France. The bike that accompanied him in that undertaking was the legendary Pinarello Espada: a true engineering masterpiece capable of revolutionizing the concept of aerodynamics applied to cycling at that precise moment in history.

The Espada was designed and built in collaboration with the University of Florence, specifically for the Induráin Record attempt. At the time, that bicycle stood out for its innovative design, the result of in-depth studies aimed at reducing aerodynamic drag. This pioneering approach was particularly relevant after the UCI (International Cycling Union) banned the so-called "praying mantis" position, which had helped Scottish cyclist Graeme Obree set the Hour Record shortly before. The Sword of Pinarello it therefore marked a real turning point, demonstrating how technology and design could be decisive in achieving exceptional performance.

A vision for the future

The Pinarello docu-series “Fausto Talks” doesn’t just tell stories of the past, but also explores the significance these superbikes have had on the world of cycling and the technical evolution of the sport. In addition to the episode dedicated to the Espada, the series includes five other episodes, each of which will focus on a historic bike. A different story, told with the passion and expertise of Fausto Pinarello. Each new episode will be released on the 4th of each month, from September to February 2025.

“Fausto Talks” therefore represents a unique opportunity for all cycling enthusiasts to come into contact with pieces of history and design that have helped shape the world of two wheels. Not only a celebration of the past, but also a reflection on how innovation and research continue, today even more so, to lead the future of cycling.
