Have you ever heard of AxiomYes, we have, for a few years now, thanks to the merits achieved by these specific power meters produced by Favero Electronics: all Italian and characterised by more than one extremely innovative detail...

Some features? First of all, the detection, which occurs directly from the pedal. The lightness (just 150 grams). They can be installed in seconds, are both Bluetooth and ANT+ compatible, and have an automatic calibration system. They are waterproof (for real!), as the pedal body is completely devoid of electronics as it is enclosed in a block of two-component resin.. Still on the subject of compatibility, they can be used with both Shimano and Look Keo cleats. And then, the house specialty… Many power meters calculate power using the average angular velocity per rotation, rather than the actual instantaneous angular velocity. This aspect could introduce an additional error of up to 4.5% compared to the declared accuracy.
Assioma, on the other hand, thanks to its own exclusive IAV Power system and the integrated gyroscope, is able to guarantee the same accuracy of ±1% with any type of pedaling: even with oval chainrings…

An Olympic guarantee

We found significant evidence of the quality and reliability of Favero Electonics' Assioma power meter in the interesting blog post—a few excerpts from which we reproduce here—that the Treviso-based company offers on its official website. We were in fact very intrigued by an interview that the marketing and communication staff of Favero conducted together with Anna Kiesenhofer, the Austrian athlete who unexpectedly won gold in the road race at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Anna, as is well known, is a mathematician, as well as a long-time Assioma user. And it is precisely the approach of a mathematician, both in her professional career and in her cycling/competitive career, that...Kiesenhofer makes it an important reference for analyzing each piece of data and each individual variable, perfecting the smallest details useful for achieving one's goals.

«Let me start by saying – Kiesenhofer immediately pointed out – that yes, I used Assioma the day she won the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games… When did I start training with power? It was 2014, and I was just an amateur cyclist. The reason I started is because as a mathematician, I wanted to have precise data to structure and analyze my learning and progress. I mean, if you don't have numbers, how can you tell if you're improving or not?

Why would you recommend training with a power meter?

There are actually several reasons. It's an objective way to measure training intensity, and I think it's also crucial when competing: it helps avoid starting too hard or too... easy. Also, if you are following a specific training planHow do you know if everything is working? Having the numbers is essential.

You trained with Assioma before winning the gold medal: why did you choose this specific brand?

I needed something easy to use. Easy to install and easy to move between bikes. Practical considerations, yes, but I was also looking for a reliable power meter. I had some friends who had already tested it and they highly recommended it to me..

How does Assioma help you in your daily cycling activity?

I plan my workouts in advance, using numbers, and set goals. Then I analyze them at the end of the session. Did I hit the target? How did I feel? Did I improve? Numbers are also motivating. If you have specific goals in terms of numbers, you feel like you want to reach them. Your body isn't a machine, but if you don't reach the numbers... that's okay. Today isn't the day, but tomorrow might be.

What data is most important to you?

For training, definitely the power numbers. They give me immediate feedback on my performance. When I'm doing hard efforts, pedaling balance plays a particularly important role because it lets me know if I have a certain asymmetry in my legs and I try to compensate for it.

What do you like most about Assioma?

There are several features I really like, it's hard to choose. As mentioned, it's easy to install and swap between bikes. For pedaling balance analysis, it's an advantage over traditional power meters. Finally, the price is also a strong point.
