Among the definitions of “disseminate” is: “Making scientific and technical notions accessible to a greater number of people, with a simple and clear expression”. It's a gift that not everyone possesses. It's a gift that you might think belongs to someone who has a deep knowledge of a certain field, but that's not the case. There's the doctor who knows how to cure cancer, but doesn't know how to teach, and there's the rider who wins hundreds of races, but fails to communicate the essence of cycling well.

Second life

The role of a popularizer in the world of cycling… media is more sought after than ever, especially by amateurs, who – increasingly and increasingly intent on emulating the professionals in pursuit of super performance – want to understand how to train to perform at their best, how to eat, how to dress, and which bikes to buy. It is Alan Marangoni's second career fits into this trend, who in ten years as a pro has won only once (in the last race of his career, at the Tour de Okinawa), but who on the web channel Gcn Italy he managed to find his own dimension, together with Giorgio Brambilla, also a professional from 2010 to 2014.

Winning simplicity

Their role is precisely explain to amateurs all the secrets of a rider through videos, almost always filmed in the saddle, often together with some of the big names in the group. A sort of training course that is popular and beneficial, in a certain sense, also in terms of road safety education.

«Don't tell our followers – explains Marangoni –. We must be precise, punctual, exhaustive because they are thirsty for knowledge and already look at us as great connoisseurs. There are the "obsessed" ones, but I also see many who, fortunately, pedal for fun. In storytelling, however, the difference is simplicity."

The same enthusiasm

A role that he does well also because he himself is someone who has always lived off cycling.

«There are those who end their career with the “vomit” of the bicycle – says the Maranga – There are those who quit while still young and leave this world because they have it in for the system. And then there are those like me, who have always been passionate about cycling.I observed everything, I watched all the races, I loved the amateurs and Now I still pedal with the same enthusiasm».

Too many watts

This is also why Giorgio Brambilla is the most “technical” of the duo, while Marangoni entertains and ranges with his typical Romagna exuberance. It's therefore interesting to know his point of view on cycling today.

"I see too many watts and not enough romance – he confesses – I don't see gatherings anymore because everyone has their own schedule to follow, I know professionals who are neighbors, but cannot train together because they have different values».

Numbers and coolness that are reflected both on and off the race: «Many riders now do their homework – he explains – they put on a race number, push, finish, go to the hotel, and get stuck into their smartphones. There is little harmony and there is too much stress in the group. and therefore many distractions and many falls that ruin a race. I'm thinking, for example, of the Roglic's trivial fall at the Tour».

"When telling a story," says Marangoni with the practicality of a rider, "simplicity makes the difference."

Gravel is coming

It's no surprise that Marangoni doesn't look favorably on the boom in "technological" rollers, used even in summer, just as it's no surprise that for him the racing bike is still king.

«We will start doing some videos also for gravel – he reveals – which together with e-bikes create curiosity, but I think they will never have the allure of a racing bike and the races in that world will never reach the level of a Flanders or a Roubaix. Maybe I'm closed-minded, but that's how I feel.».
