Just 13 months ago we wrote: “Traini's tale, suddenly pro'”. It was a gamble. A well-considered gamble to let it pass. Tomas Trainini among the pros' on the part of the Bardiani Csf Faizanè and a bet the boy himself made. Unfortunately, it didn't go well.
In the end, it's not a sad story, let alone a dramatic one. At a certain point, Tomas's inner light that drives him to make sacrifices went out, and the "game" was over. Not yet 21, the Brescia native has a life ahead of him. And he's already started building it again.
Motivations disappeared
«I didn't feel motivated anymore "— Trainini honestly explains—"the right one to continue being a cyclist at my best. And since the team has always treated me so well, I didn't think it was right to continue like this. So I decided to terminate my contract."
«Clearly it wasn't easy. It wasn't an overnight decision. I thought about it for a long time, but if I didn't have the right spirit to find myself in what I was doing, it would have been pointless to continue. For what? In the end, it's right this way: for me, for Bardiani, and because maybe I'll leave the place to some other guy."
Rossato, his conscience
Tomas speaks calmly about his situation. He doesn't seem to have any regrets, and that's the most important thing.
Being part of the youth group of Bardiani Csf Faizanè, he was in close contact with the sports director Mirko Rossato. The two talked a lot. And yes, he had completed his winter training as usual. He had gone to training camps…
"I actually talked to Rossato a lot. He told me a lot of things. He told me to think carefully before giving up everything. Because It's not often that you get this opportunity to be a professional and be able to do the under 23 activity at the same time, to grow slowly, especially if you're as young as me. There aren't many teams that cultivate their youth system like this."
Trainini also explains that he had a long dialogue with Roberto Reverberi, and even with Alessandro Donati, the other sports director. «A little less – he adds – with Luca Amoriello, but only because we haven't seen each other much physically."
Looking to the future
At 21, which he turns 21 in September, you certainly can't stand still. Life begins again, but perhaps it would be enough to simply say it moves forward. And Tomas has already rolled up his sleeves.
«For now – says Trainini – I'm looking at mechanical college. I attended a motorsports school, and it's a very practical type of university. For now, however, the competitions and admissions are closed. Let's see..."
"In the meantime I found a job. I already work in this sector, at a major factory in the Brescia area that produces hydraulic pumps for trucks. I'm on the assembly line, but perhaps it won't be impossible to move up to higher departments over time."
And the bike?
Perhaps too little time has passed for him to miss the bike and for the same special stage to evoke any real emotion, but it's something we asked him anyway. Often, when you retire, in the early stages, you experience a period of rejection.
«For now – explains Trainini – I'm more focused on other things, I don't think about the bike much. There's a friend of mine who also raced in the past, and we've met up again. We have a passion for motorcycles. And for example, last Sunday I accompanied him to a track race in Cremona. This is also an environment I like."
«As for the bike, at the moment I only have the old one Canyon I used to ride as a boy. I returned the other one, along with the clothing I'd never used before, to the team. I don't miss the road bike for now, but I'm going out on my mountain bike.
"I've always loved it, and I often used it in winter training. As soon as I stopped, I went every day. I'd go for a walk with family and friends. I had fun that way."
