He celebrated his eighteenth birthday during a training in the North, as a preview of what awaits him in the coming years. Silvia Milesi has grown quickly and is one of the most promising prospects available to Biesse-Carrera and of the city Sangalli.

In mid-August he stuck the number on the shirt of the BePink-Bongioanni, while currently (and until September 7) the Bergamo area of Villa d'Almè (in the opening photo Ossola) She's in Livigno with the national team. A two-week training camp to prepare for the European Championships and the World Championships, with distinct workloads, given the opposite courses—flat and much more challenging, respectively. Milesi returns to the group for the World Championships in Zurich thanks to his climbing skills and in the next races he will try to legitimize his call-up. We took stock of the season with her and, after overcoming an initial shyness mixed with embarrassment, perhaps due to the unexpected attention, he told us everything about himself.

Silvia, your sports director Manzini had given us a little preview, but let's first give you a quick introduction.

I started running relatively late, from G6. Before then I had always done dance, swimming and horse riding, but there was no way I could get on a bike. Even though my grandfather and father are big cycling fans, I was scared because a relative in my family had had a bad accident, then a schoolmate of mine gradually convinced me, and I started. My characteristics are mainly that of a climber. I don't have a particular idol who inspires me, even though I really like Vollering now, but to be honest I like almost all the athletes.

How did your internship go?

It was a very nice ten days, even though being in Belgium it rained almost all the time. BePink is a great team, I got along well with everyone in it..Guiding us up there was Sigrid Corneo who was very understanding both with me and with Linda Ferrari, the other intern (from BFT Burzoni, editor's note). He didn't put any pressure on us and didn't expect anything from us in the race, except maximum effort. It was a great experience and I learned a lot.

What differences struck you most?

In the team you immediately notice a more detailed organization, with some permanent figures such as the masseur who we don't have among the juniors. I really liked the atmosphere at the races.. The team presentation and the signature sheet are always exciting moments that among the juniors in Italy are understandably a little rarer.

In the running instead?

There you have to deal with greater mileage and much faster paces. Compared to our open races it's a whole other worldI took part in three races (GP Reynders, Egmont, and GP Van Impe, ed.) that featured very technical courses, with lots of cobblestones. Even on the flat, it was tough and I never gave up. You can immediately see the spirit with which one runs to the North. And you can also see what awaits you beyond.Someone told us that if you pass certain races in Belgium, you're ready to pass anything. We'll see (smiles, ed.).

Taking stock, how have these two years as a junior been for Silvia Milesi?

Honestly, I have to say they were a surprise. As a student, I was nothing, I'd achieved very little. Last year, in my first year as a junior, I had an endless series of placings without any victories, where however I discovered that I was good at time trials.I didn't even expect to compete in the European track championships, where we won gold in the team pursuit, or the road championships in Holland.

And we come to today.

It's been a good 2024 so far, again exceeding my expectations. I won two races, I got seven podiums including second place in the Italian championshipI participated again in the European track championships with the quartet, this time taking bronze. I think I made a qualitative leap by making the most of the experience gained last year..

Goals for the end of the season?

There are several. I'll look at them one by one. When we get down from the hill I'll run to Racconigi, then From September 13th to 15th we will do the Giro delle Marche in Rosa, where I hope to do well Since there are some stages that are quite suitable for me, that could be a good test to get closer to the World Championships. I would like to definitively earn the blue jersey for Zurich.
