The common thread of the career of Francesco Moser, in addition to the victories, it is certainly the innovationFrom hour records, to time trials, to physical preparation. After three years of development, the new bike is born FMoser. A model that relaunches the new brand and projects it into the future with exclusive and original features.

We went to try it out, right at the “Sheriff’s” house, at Maso Warth in Trentino Alto-Adige. We found a bike that is detached from the traditional concept, but at the same time it is not positioned only in the electric road segmentThe union of the two worlds has led to a model capable of using the bike as one wishes.

“Your road, your choice.” This is the tagline the brand uses to present itself. Complete freedom of choice for the user, who has the possibility of switching from electric to muscular in less than two minutes, just by replacing the rear wheel. Let's take a look at it in every detail...

The choice is yours

The basic concept that determines the soul of this FMoser is definitely the Dual Mode System.  The double wheel, which is included in all the set-ups, allows you to go from muscular to assisted in less than two minutes. Assembly can be done independently by following a few simple steps.

Starting from the muscular structure the rear wheel is removed. If insert the battery into the “H” channel which facilitates the sliding of cables without impediments. The cables are connected rubber by joining the connectors. Finally, the wheel with the motor is inserted into the hub in place and connect the connector to the rear carriage which has a click to keep it in place. A system that overall provides a feeling of reliability and ergonomics during assembly.

Responsive and light

Let's get to one of the features that most surprised us during the test. The frame, obviously made of carbon, features wide sections and profiles that cleverly recall aerodynamicsA smart choice to hide the battery's bulk while also benefiting from aesthetics.

Not only beautiful to look at, but also concrete in performance. The set-up is endurance, so comfort is ensured even over long distancesHowever, we tried to stress it with changes of direction and flexions under maximum effort. The FMoser responded surprisingly well. In fact, it proved to be rigid and reactive. This is the result of geometries that include a more open head angle and a longer wheelbase, combined with a compact chassis which does not sacrifice its reactivity.

With or without battery

La The bike has two dispositions: with and without battery. When using it with the engine, it responds well and is easy to drive. The weight is evenly distributed. and the increase in weight is felt especially at the rear, with a slight delay in changing direction.

La The real revolution that makes this FMoser an on-off hybrid is the muscular modeThe designers of the Italian company have in fact found a revolutionary technical solution. Normally the down tube section on traditional e-bikes always has a “C” facing downwards. This implies a propensity for twisting and bending when the battery is not installed.

For this project a closed section down tube with battery extraction just above the bottom bracket, pulling it downwards. The sensations of driving with Battery-free bikes are in fact like muscle bikes without any kind of regret or lack of chassis. This is also allowed by the fantastic weight of 7,5 kilos.

The heart of FMoser

Giving lifeblood to this FMoser is the engine FSA HM1 Hub Motor with 42 Nm of torque and 250 Wh batteryA high-performance aid that supports the cyclist on the most demanding outings. There are five levels of assistance which cover every type of need in a homogeneous manner. during the journey you decide to take.

The autonomy does not allow for excessively long mileages, but with wise management you can do any type of tour. For those who want to go further with the mileage, it is possible to purchase an additional 250 Wh battery which is positioned in the bottle cage and works in series with the primary one, sharing all the peculiarities.

Analyzing the engine FSA it is noticeable the torque sensor inside the freewheel. This allows first of all to have linearity in assistance, and secondly, balanced assistance based on the force applied to the pedals. A notable difference compared to the competition who often don't have it.

La The battery is made up of 20 Samsung cells, the best on the market with these characteristics.Reliability and durability are in fact also guaranteed by this technical choice. All with a total weight which remains under 4 kilos.

Controls and gear changes

in two top of the range devices are included in the price: the range extender and the Garmin display for optimal monitoring. Furthermore The Garmin remote is present in all versions which allows you to get on and off with the assistance of the engine without taking your hands off the handlebars.

La The battery is also the brain of the bike and manages the connections thanks to its Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivityThe colors of the LED on the horizontal tube determine the assists: green for neutral, then blue, pink, yellow, and red for maximum thrust. The LED also lets you know how much battery you have available based on its color..

To support the experience there is theapp that provides support for training and data management. With also one diagnostic function to monitor the condition of the components and their lifeCompatible with Android and IOS and commercial wearables.

Il wireless electronic gear change present on all versions with different setups, allows for smoother, but above all faster and more precise gear changes than the traditional mechanical gearbox.

Our considerations

This FMoser can be considered a manifesto for the concept of hybridThe advantage perceived by the double wheel is that this concept is not softened but rather reinforced. With or without engine, it allows you to choose as if you had two different bikes for the price of one

Battery life is perhaps the only drawback if you plan to use it exclusively as an e-bike. This issue becomes less important if you purchase the second battery, which doubles the range. In conclusion, this bike amazes and reflects the values of innovation and audacity that the name written on the frame has always been indelibly preserved in its history.
