The historic Vicenza brand Ursus has recently expanded its road range by launching a very interesting product. These are the new Pura R, carbon wheels developed for those looking for a reliable and versatile product, suitable for everyday outings, whether training or long-distance rides. But without neglecting aerodynamics and performance, as demonstrated by the two profiles available, 40 and 50 mm.
Ursus' aim with the Pura R is to offer wheels capable of combining performance, quality and durability over time, without aiming at extreme lightness at all costs. The result is a product that is designed, developed and assembled in Italy, designed to offer performance that does not decrease as the months go by. All this at a excellent value for money.
UD carbon for every ride
The heart of the new Pura R is the UD carbon rim which, as we said, is available with a 40 or 50 mm profile. Both versions adopt a 23mm internal channel and an external width of 30mm, that is, sizes developed to work best with modern tyres from 28 mm and up.
This configuration optimizes the integration between rim and cover, helping to make more regulate the air flow and limit turbulence at speeds reached in road use. The structure was also designed using the latest technologies. This means that, naturally, They are tubeless ready and adopt a mini-hook design, a solution that we see more and more often on the latest generation wheels.
All this aligns perfectly with Ursus' intention regarding Pura R, which is to create wheels that do not seek the extreme, but rather balanced behavior in every situation and, perhaps above all, in the long term.
Thanks to the two medium-air profiles, the new wheels appear as excellent allies to accompany amateurs during daily training, but also in the longest and fastest outings. Always maintaining what is truly fundamental, a precise and predictable driving on different routes.
All Ursus technology
But there's more to it than just the rim. The new Pura Rs are equipped with the Ursus U-RD30 hubs, equipped with stainless steel bearings designed to ensure smoothness and reliability over time.
Interesting, considering its intended use, too the proprietary U-Press system that allows the hub to be quickly dismantled for cleaning operations and maintenance. A solution designed to simplify the lives of even the least experienced cyclists, reducing the time required for routine maintenance, even for mechanics, and thus maintaining consistent performance over the miles.
The spoke pattern was also developed with the same objective. Ursus has in fact used the Sapim Leader spokes, in stainless steel and with constant section, which are assembled according to a 24-24 pattern with 1:1 crossoverThis configuration was designed by Ursus to evenly distribute the tension between the hub and the rim, to the advantage of reliability. The result is a good torsional rigidity and a smooth response during acceleration, during relaunches and while cornering. All features that contribute to greater safety even in the hottest phases of pedaling.
Weight, versions and price
Le Pure R have a declared weight of 1.640 grams for the 40mm version and 1.680 grams for the 50mm version. As for compatibility, they can accommodate tires ranging from 28 to 45 mm, making them suitable for all latest generation tyres, but also for a good part of gravel.
Finally, the price, certainly one of the strong points. Before revealing it, however, an important point must be made. The new Pura R are the most accessible carbon wheels from the Italian company, but still incorporate many of the technical solutions adopted on the higher models. Both versions are already available on the Ursus website at 990 euros for the pair.
