REGGIO EMILIA – In the most modern era of broadcasts, not only those with a marked racing orientation, Sram ha completely removed the wiring of the transmission. This factor has contributed to almost completely changing the assembly, maintenance and management operations of the transmissions themselves, but it has the way of designing frames has also changed and some components of the bicycle (for example the handlebars).
We have been to Beltrami TSA, which officially became the Sram operational detachment in Italy and Lorenzo Spotti, Customer Service Coordinator we delved into the topic of assembling a new group Sram Force AXS, focusing for now on the actual broadcast.

The new Force AXS drivetrain
This is a sort of first episode and the main subject is the editing of thelatest version of the Force AXS on a frame kit FactorOne. Our goal is to clearly separate the specificities of the transmission from those of the brake hydraulic system.
With Lorenzo Spotti We shared a day of work, happy and surprised witnesses to the ease of assembly of the transmission and the simplicity of combining the different components involved.

How long does it take to install a Sram AXS system on a bike?
30 to 40 minutes for the entire broadcast and excluding the hydraulics of the disc brakes, which are more complex. Usually the complications arise from the internal routing of the frame and handlebar hoses, not from the system. Furthermore, it is important to underline that the Sram AXS transmissions with wireless data exchange with Sram patent, have the same timing and are based on the same steps for associating the different components.

Are there any differences between a Red eTap AXS and a new Force, that is, between a top-of-the-range groupset and what we consider a mid-range groupset?
There are only two differences and in reality we can summarise them in one. For the new Sram Force AXS a command architecture has been adopted that is similar to that of the Rival, which forced us to change the upper portion of the lever. Compared to the previous version and the current Red, it has been removed the pad contact register.
Can the various components be coupled even before they are mounted on the frame?
Yes of course, in fact it is an operation that is recommended.. Furthermore, thanks to the AXS app It is possible to complete the configuration of the components, with any updates, even before proceeding with assembly on the frame.

One of the unique features of SRAM AXS is Bluetooth communication, which means there are no cables for transmission. Is there a risk of disconnection and signal loss?
No, there is no such danger. nor that relating to interference of various kinds. During the development and preparation of the very first prototypes, we are talking about several years ago, the tests conducted in the field took into consideration these two problems, leading the AXS transmissions inside military zones, known for the interference they create. This procedure has helped create a very reliable shielding protocol.

Is it possible to combine the different components of the various systems, Red with Force, Force with Rival, etc.?
Yes and it is one of the advantages of Sram AXS transmissions, also with a view to enormous versatility. Consider, for example, the many combinations between the various disciplines, or the use of a single chainring. All systems are compatible with each other and can be perfectly interfaced.

Are there any steps that help maintain the integrity and maximum efficiency of the AXS drivetrain?
Every Sram transmission AXS, whether it's Red, Force, or Rival, with all the differences and variables depending on the product category, is designed to last over time. But it's also true that a drivetrain in general and every single piece that's part of it is subject to aexponential wear. Replacing the chain before it reaches maximum wear is a factor to consider. It's also essential to use appropriate, high-quality, and non-aggressive cleaning and lubricating products.

Is it possible to quantify the average life of a latest generation Sram Force AXS (or AXS in general) drivetrain?
As mentioned above a Sram transmission is designed to last and to be efficient. For this it is It is difficult to quantify the life of an AXS, which, under the same usage conditions as a mechanical transmission of the same category, lasts longer. For example the new Flat Top chains have a longer average life than the “old” ones with a standard design. It depends on the conditions of use, maintenance, and the type of routes you ride. Lifespan and efficiency depend on the season, how you pedal, and how you shift gears. If we examine the chain, we find some that still have some use left at 20.000 kilometers, others that are finished at 10.000 kilometers due to inadequate maintenance.

Moving on to the power meter instead quartz, is there a recommended battery that allows me to fully exploit the potential of the instrument?
A rule, but also a piece of advice that is valid for all those devices that work with coin-operated batteries, is to Do not use batteries with anti-swallowing device. It is a coating that becomes bitter when in contact with saliva, but at the same time limits the maximum transmission of energy towards some electrical contacts.
