Rivet Mips is the new Giant time trial helmet, already seen on the heads of the team's riders Jayco AlUla in this Giro d'Italia (Luke Plapp opening). From today It is available to anyone who wants to challenge time, whether they are time trialists or triathletes. Its strengths are aerodynamics and lightness, combined with all the security of the MIPS system.

CFD design refined in the wind tunnel

The most important feature of a time trial helmet is its ability to offer minimal air resistance. To find the best solution in this regard, Giant relied on models studied in CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and perfected with wind tunnel tests. This research led the designers towards the characteristic profile of the Rivet Mips, with a central “dimple” groove that better directs the air flow.

This design brings an advantage – according to the company – quantifiable in 6.4 watts compared to the previous model. However, we know that ventilation is also a fundamental factor in races against the clock. For this reason, the Rivet Mips is equipped with a pair of air intakes in the center of the helmet, just above the visor, so as to constantly feed the air flow inside of the helmet (thus regulating the temperature) without compromising aerodynamics.

Mips protection and anti-fog aero visor

The Rivet Mips helmet owes part of its name to the integration of the system Mips Air Node, the lightest of the Mips range. It is about a low-friction laminate layer bonded to the padding, designed to release on angled impacts, helping to redirect rotational motion and limit trauma.

The visor is naturally aerodynamic, thus creating a single unit with the shell. It is also removable and equipped with UV protection, as well as an interesting and useful one anti-fog treatment that uses the air entering from the two front air vents. This way, visibility is always guaranteed, even during the most intense efforts.

Other details, weight and price

The closure of the Rivet Mips is entrusted to the Fidlock magnetic buckle which allows for secure fastening even with one hand, and at a custom strapping system which ensure a perfect fit. Three sizes are available: S (51–55cm), M (55–59cm), and L (59–63cm). Regarding weight, here are some numbers: in size M the scale stops at 503 grams with visor and 423 grams without visor. The recommended retail price is from 279,99 euro.
