Campagnolo recently introduced Pista, the new version of its wheels for velodrome activity. But this isn't just a simple revamp. Until now, the Pista model it was meant for training onlyFrom now on, however, it is a question of a true competition model, with top-of-the-range performance thanks to the 65 mm profile in unidirectional carbon, lamellar spokes and ceramic bearings. In addition they are available for both tubular and tubeless, for maximum versatility.

A whole of rigidity

As just mentioned, the new track has made the leap in quality moving from a training model to one capable of tackling high-level competitions. One of its peculiarities is that it is very handy and versatile. Therefore, the company informs us, it is particularly suitable for tactical disciplinesand such as the keirin.

This is because Pista was designed so that once launched the different components such as hub, spokes and rim become one, offering the maximum possible rigidity. Even the material used for the 65mm rim points straight in this direction. This is thanks to the use of the unidirectional carbon fiber, the most rigid and performing.

The Pistas are designed to be more economical and versatile than the Ghiblis, which instead focus on maximum aerodynamics.

Lamellar spokes and ceramic bearings

A track wheel – especially if it's called a Pista – must also have excellent aerodynamics. For this reason the spokes are 2 mm section lamellar (20 in the front wheel and 24 in the rear), and with nipples hidden inside the rim, to minimize turbulence. Smoothness has also been taken care of in detail, with the introduction of Cult ceramic bearings (Ceramic Ultimate Level Technology).

In more detail they are made of silicon nitride, a material that ensures the least possible friction among those available on the market. Campagnolo has announced that in laboratory tests These bearings have 40% less friction coefficient compared to standard bearings (to the point of being able to rotate five and a half times longer).

One wheel, many versions

We mentioned the versatility of the Pista at the beginning. They have been designed in 4 different versions to adapt to the different specialties of the indoor world. In fact, they are offered both in the classic tubular version and in the so-called 2-Way version for tubeless.

Furthermore both of these two versions adopt two different hub configurations. With a 100mm wide front hub and 120mm wide rear hub, or the modern standard with a 65mm wide front hub and 100mm wide rear hub. tubular version weighs 1692 grams the pair and is offered at the price of 2510 euros, while that 2-Way Fit stops the scale at 1763 grams the pair at the price of 2710 euros.
