After his debut in the World Tour, Van Rysel continues the its growth in high-end cycling. The latest innovations are the VR 35 and VR 50, the first carbon wheels produced by the Lille-based company.

The wheels They are the result of two years of development and combine performance and responsiveness, with two profiles for two different needs: 35 mm for versatility and 50 mm for aerodynamics. Naturally, They are tubeless ready.

Testate in CFD and wind tunnel

For the design of the wheels, the engineers at Van Rysel relied on on CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulationsThanks to these preliminary studies they were able to choose the best solution, both structural and aerodynamic, for example analyzing the movement of air around the wheels.

The second part of the studies was done with a series of wind tunnel testingHere the VR 35 and VR 50 wheels were evaluated both alone and mounted on bicycles, in order to analyze the data as realistically as possible. These tests also indicated that the new wheels find the perfect balance between aerodynamics, rolling efficiency and comfort if equipped with 28mm tires.

VR 35 and VR 50, different characters

The V35 model (with a 35 mm profile) is the right choice for those looking for maximum lightness and versatile wheels. The weight of the pair is in fact 1.490 grams (70 grams less than the VR50) while maintaining excellent reactivity, which makes the wheels ideal for climbs.

The VR 50 (with 50 mm profile) instead aim for maximum aerodynamics, while the weight stops at 1.560 grams. Compared to the VR 35 model, at a speed of 45 km/h the impact with the air is even 16% better. Both models are equipped with DT Swiss 370 Classic hubs and have a 22 mm internal channel. Both the VR 35 and VR 50 are also designed for off-road use. Their “gravel friendly” spirit it is in fact demonstrated by the fact that they can accommodate tires from 25 up to even 55 mm.

Production, accessories and price

The VR 35 and 50 wheels are assembled in Lille, France, in the same factory where RCR bikes are produced, the highest-end Van Rysel bikes. The wheels are also Supplied with an accessory kit that includes 8 spare spokes, 2 tubeless valves and a tube remover.

Finally, the price. The VR 35s are already available. on the Decathlon website a 799,99 €, while the VR 50 (pre-orderable for now) 899,99 €.
