From icon to relaunch
If you rewatch the videos of Tomba and Cipollini's victories, it's impossible not to notice the iconic Detector shoes that champions of that generation wore in many sports. For 2023, Briko has decided to relaunch them through a restyling process in terms of aesthetics and use of materials.
«We have reinterpreted – he explains Michele Viggiano, global brand manager of Briko – from the product and design point of view, the most iconic model in the brand's historyIt was a macro-family, the most important was called Detector Shot which was the glasses worn by Alberto Tomba when skiing and by Mario Cipollini when cycling. Already at the time the founder of Briko Alberto Brignone had this idea of product versatility. This model, created in 1992, immediately won the Compasso d'Oro, a prestigious award in the world of design.
«This year – says Viggiano – for the thirtieth anniversary of the Detector Shot model we decided to reinterpret it with Retrosuperfuture, a Milanese partner specializing in eyewear design. Working with them, we redesigned the Detector with the same key features: the temples with their unique closure that extends to the nose pad and closes in a non-traditional way. The very enveloping, cylindrical lens. And then all the features like the adjustable nose piece and the air vents to eliminate various fogging. All with a look updated to modern designThis is sort of the starting point for the launch of the old Briko logo, which has come back into fashion with this product and will then be extended to the entire collection."

All for one
The Detector is the eyewear that embodies the essence of Briko, elevating it to an iconic product. Redesigning it was no easy task, requiring meticulous attention to detail to maintain its essential design, suitable for every sport.
«Our concept – explains Viggiano – wants to get to the "all for one". Working with increasingly lighter and more comfortable technical materials, We want to maintain a concept of performance that is adaptable to multiple disciplinesThen, obviously, there are products that must remain specific to the sector, and we are the first to want this. Thanks to the fact that we are in 2022, there is research into materials that allows for this versatility.
«We studied it – he concludes – taking inspiration from the images of the glorious Cipollini and TombaWe started from that concept of athletes who think outside the box and outside the box. To relaunch it on the market we thought of focusing on a target that does not necessarily have to aim for maximum performance. But it's a high-end product. The lens remains the most important part and this is one of the highest quality."
The Detector will be available in the colors: Black Dune BL3, Gray Shuttle SG3, Multi Pink Turquoise Gradient BM3. The price is from 159 euro.
