Campagnolo officially launches its power meter which takes the name of HPPM, Short for High Precision Power Meter.

It is perfectly in line with the development of the latest broadcast Super Record Wireless, for research and performance. The power meter has the detection based on 16 sensors and a gyroscope. Let's go into detail.

The detection is in the spider

The specific crankset that integrates the meter has a 4-arm spider that supports the chainrings and the gears are positioned inside the arms 16 sensors (strain gauges arranged in a diamond shape)The solution allows for complete and continuous measurement throughout the entire pedal stroke, with high precision of the torque output. Angular velocity is obtained using a gyroscope.

From the combination of the two data and their sampling (which occurs every five milliseconds), you get the value of the watts, with a accuracy of +/-1%The frequency used to read the final data is 200 Hertz (very high).

The crankset and the power meter

The crankset mounts a titanium pin with Ultra-Torque system (the axle is divided into two parts, one for each crank). The two cranks are made of unidirectional carbon, perfectly in line with the concept of the very high range Super Record, available in lengths of 170, 172,5 and 175 millimetres. The The chainring combinations are 45-29, 48-32 and 50-34.The Super Record Wireless transmission chainrings are perfectly compatible with a 121/88 mm bolt circle. Other interesting numbers are related to the Q factor, which is 148 millimeters and the declared value on the scale. The complete crankset with 45/29 chainrings and 172,5 long cranks weighs 656 grams.

The battery is internal and rechargeable: a more complicated solution in the construction and development phase, but which allows for having a more precise, constant detection, to the advantage of a faster data sampling. It has a stated charging time of about 4 hours, for an expected battery life of 30 days (obviously depending on use). Some interesting numbers. The Q factor of the crankset with the power meter is 148 mm.

The My Campy 3.0 App

The My Campy 3.0 App it is in fact a console that allows you to manage all EPS devices and also the new HPPMWith the application it is possible to calibrate, but also monitor the data expressed during the ride, as well as update the instrument when required and check the battery status. Campagnolo HPPM (including the entire crankset) has a list price of 2.240 euros.
