Colnago G4-X, gravel racing has defined its icon

Colnago launches the new model specifically dedicated to gravel competitions, namely the G4-X. In fact it is a sort of parallel with the V4Rs, the road that is used by athletes UAE Team Emirates, but with technical features that push towards off-road.

Rigid and light, fun and easy to drive, a driveability that also translates into an optimal feeling, with that a touch of comfort that doesn't hurt on dirt roadsBut the project for this bike started a long time ago, with the ambition of being a bike for compete in cyclocross. This is the summary of the new G4-X.

Compared to the G3-X it was increased wheel clearance and consequently of the tires, brought to 45 millimeters. On the G3-X it was 40 and on the C68 Gravel it is 42. While making the most of the fitment of a “big” 45mm tyre, it is interesting to note how the insertion of the rear stays maintains a free radius of 6 millimeters. This means there is plenty of space between the tire and the pipes.

Sloping and 43 wagon

The fork stem has a traditional diameter, which allows it to mount a traditional stem, or the integrated Colnago CC.01 Wide. It's a sort of gravel-oriented evolution of the full carbon handlebar present on the V4Rs and we consider it the perfect match for gravel use (not just racing). The CC.01 Wide has a 3-centimeter increased lateral flare (the road one has a 1-centimeter flare).

The horizontal pipe, in the upper section, has a point of assembly for a small bag. Added to this is that of the third bottle cage, placed under the down tube and immediately above the bottom bracket shell (which is of T47 matrix). The derailleur mount can be removed.

Finally the geometries, which are based on a slightly longer bike than the G3-X. It is a sloping frame, with a 43cm rear triangle, a value common to all sizes. The bb drop is between 72 and 70mm, an excellent value also from a cyclocross perspective.

Sizes and prices

The available sizes are 45, 48 and 52, 54 and 57. Each of these highlights some excellent values, however proportionate and progressive size-by-size reach and stackThe bike doesn't feel too low at the front, which makes it more comfortable even over long periods of time.

There are 5 available setups in total, the first three are based on Sram transmissions with single chainring, to which are added the Shimano configurations with the GRX800 systems, with double plateau and with single chainring.setup with the Red XPLR and Zipp 303s wheels has a list price of 8.870 euros. The one with the Force XPLR and Fulcrum Rapid Red wheels has a price list of 5.710 euros, while the package with the Ram Rival (with Fulcrum Rapid Red 900 wheels) is offered at 4.830 euros. The two G4-X with Shimano and Fulcrum Rapid Red 900 wheels have a list price (both) of 4.330 euros.
