CA' DEL POGGIO – Taking shape the new Pinarello Dogma GR, the gravel bike designed specifically for competition. It was presented to the international press in a setting that is nothing short of the home of cycling and the bicycle: House of the Poggio, in the heart of the Prosecco region.

Pinarello brand, Dogma family and F category: a blend of factors that make a bicycle explosive, leaving the compromises to others, just like the Dogma F road. Dogma GR is not the evolution of the Grevil, that's something else. Let's look at it in detail.

Pinarello Dogma GR: why was it created?

Dogma GR was born with the clear objective of being a bike for gravel racing, borrowing several solutions from the Dogma sisters already present in the range, adapting and shaping them for the gravel race environment. Materials, technologies and aerodynamics from the road Dogma F and Crossist, which also inspires the aesthetic impact (and the geometries).

Yet there is also a bit of MTB, because some technical solutions derive from the Dogma XC. To better contextualize the Dogma GR we asked for some considerations from Raffaele Maccari, Pinarello Product Manager for the gravel category.

Dogma GR, the evolution of speed

«If we wanted to categorize today's gravel races – explains Maccari – we could identify three macro-categories: competition, light gravel and everything that revolves around trail/bike packing/adventure. We can also segment gravel taking into account the travel time, up to 5 hours and over 5 hours of racingThe new Dogma GR would be eligible for competitions up to 5 hours. From the Dogma F and the Crossista, it inherits functional aerodynamics, carbon fiber, speed, responsiveness, and lightness. Its frame tips the scales at 960 grams. The downhill confidence and stability are reminiscent of the Dogma XC.

«Pinarello Dogma GR – he continues – does not have mechanical inserts in the central section and in the rear triangle, but allows a longitudinal flexion that can reach 8 millimetersAt the same time, however, it is not possible to mount a dropper post. The design does not allow it and it was preferred make the most of the properties of carbon and components, with un seatpost that we have defined as adaptiveOur thesis is also supported by the fact that in the high-level gravel racing environment, the use of the telescopic seatpost finds little consensus."

How is the GR Dogma made?

The carbon is of M40X matrix, the same as the Dogma F road bike. The fork is a trademark Pinarello Onda (with 50mm rake), all carbon and appropriately adapted to the new bike and the gravel context. Frame and fork adopt the new E-TiCR solution for the front passage of the cable housings, means greater steering stability and supports a compartment design entirely inherited from its road sibling. There's also a better interface with the integrated full-carbon handlebar. Talon Ultrafast GR (which has a 7° flare and allows the fitting of prostheses). The passage of the covers is differentiated: up to 45 for the front, up to 42 for the rear, a measurement that is reduced to 40 with the possible transmission with double chainring (and derailleur). It should be underlined that the chain line of the Dogma GR is the road one (Perfect fit for Dura Ace package). The Di2 battery is located in the center box area.

The bottom bracket shell is a Pinarello Dogma trademark, for its shape, design and for the Italian thread pitch which allows for the external assembly of the caps (this translates into ease of maintenance and also the high rigidity of the compartment). The oblique pipe has a storage compartment inside itIt is possible to mount a small bag (Racing Bento, supplied with the bike) on the horizontal bar. The geometries are inherited entirely from the Crossista. As usual, there are nine sizes available: from 43 to 59,5.

A detail on geometric values

The rear triangle has a length slightly longer than the current average for the category: desired solution, respecting the values taken from the Crossista and with the aim of increasing the overall stability of a stiff and lively bike. 42,5 centimetres up to size 54,5, which becomes 42,7 for the three largest sizes (56, 57,5 and 59,5). The seat angles are quite aggressive and lead the athlete to fully exploit the central section of the bike, loading the weight of the body forward. The steering dampers, on the other hand, are not so extreme and follow the fork rake perfectly. The overall wheelbase of the Dogma GR is contained, regardless of size.

The setups

There are three of them and they are all of a high level. One is based on the Sram Red XPLR drivetrain and Princeton 4540 wheels, the other two on the Dura Ace road drivetrain with double chainring (always the Princeton 4540). It is also available in a frame-kit version. List prices: 11.000 euros for the set-up F9, 7.200 and 6.900 euros for the two F7s, respectively based on Sram and Shimano. The price goes up to 5.600 euros for the version F5 (based on the new Sram Rival AXS 1×13), to drop to 4.300 euros for the two F3 packagesThe Pinarello Dogma GR package closes with the F1 proposed at a price of 3.500 euros.
