MASSA MARITTIMA – The new Fizik shoe seen this spring, worn by some of the Movistar Team athletes, has a very specific name and identity. Its name is Vega Carbon. As always happens in these situations, our reference from which to extract some additional technical considerations is Alex Locatelli, Product Manager Fizik.
«Vega Carbon is our race-oriented shoe – says Locatelli – which borrows the concept of the upper from the Powerstrap model and the Boa from the Stabilita, but it is essential to underline that it is a completely new project, with its own DNA. In this regard, since the Powerstrap remains in the catalog, I want to say that there is no better or worse locking system, because I think that the shoe as a whole must be functional to one's needs and requirements."

Vega Carbon, the new racing shoe
The new Vega Carbon, continues Locatelli, uses an important integration and a blend of solutions dedicated to the shape which have the objective of offering comfort first and foremost and of aadapt to the anatomy of the foot.
«We tried – concludes Locatelli – to reset any pressure point. Compared to all Fizik shoes, current and past, the Vega Carbon has a “sock construction” which is functional to stability, to better distribute the pressures inevitably generated by the Boa rotors and perfectly matches the characteristic upper».

The key points of the Vega Carbon
The particular upper (Aerowave Pro) is not just a mesh, not a net and absolutely it is not a knit fabricThe upper of the Vega Carbon is a system that was born a few years ago with the first version of the Powerstrap. An initial evolution occurred in the second generation of those shoes, appropriately redesigned for the Vega Carbon. Why? Because compared to the two Velcro straps, the action of the Boa Li2 is different. It is particularly breathable and ventilated, does not accumulate heat and humidity, and does not get soaked in water in case of rain. Aerowave Pro is very tough, robust and durable.
It has a shape anatomical, very balanced across the entire surface of the sole, but also in the width of the sole, with the aim of leaving room for the movement of the toes (even the little toe). The concept of integration is mainly expressed with the sole. It is made of carbon and features an external shell, a protective toe and a rear heel for improved grip. Overall, the sole expresses a numerical value of stiffness equal to 10 on the Fizik scale.

Some numbers of the Vega Carbon
For lovers of reduced weights, the value declared on the scale is 239 grams, very small considering the two rotors with their cables and passage points. Sizes are available from 36 to 48.
The list price is 390 euros. It's significant, but not excessive (it is actually below the average of the race category), considering the extreme research of each single component, of the workmanship and of the quality that Fizik always brings to the table.
