We had spotted them first at Tour of Italy, when Simon yates he still used them without writing and now here they are officially in a group: we are talking about the new Vision Metron 45 and 60 SL Disc. These two sets are being used by the riders of the Tour de France EF Education-Nippo and the Bahrain-Victorious, di Sonny Colbrelli.

60 and 45 mm profiles

Modern wheels, The new Metrons are designed for disc brakes and are available in both tubeless and tubular versions. The first thing Visioni engineers focused on was aerodynamics, an increasingly important feature now that weight is no longer a major issue (thanks to the materials) and given the increasing average speeds. Just think, at Vision, they consider the 45mm set for climbing. And they're right, considering the weight is just 1.395 grams. But it's clear that a wheel like this is also highly aerodynamic, and not just lightweight.

It is instead more specific for the plains and faster routes. 60mm set, which however also do not look out of place when climbing. The weight of the pair is in fact 1.460 grams, that is to say as an excellent pair of low profile aluminum wheels.

Large width

Another very important aspect that is linked both to the concept of modernity and, above all, to aerodynamics is the width of the rim. The internal channel has a section of 21 millimetres, which usually corresponds to an external width of 31-33 millimetres, measurements that some time ago would have made us think of the rims of an MTB.

This width, in addition to reducing air turbulence and thus improving the drag coefficient, also improves wheel comfort: the more material, the better vibrations are dissipated. Furthermore, this width also optimizes the fitment of 28mm tires.

The carbon used is latest-generation Hm which makes the wheel structure very rigid and at the same time light, thanks also to the insertion of a particular space-derived foam between the layers of carbon.

Hubs and spokes

But the hub, in the truest sense of the word, remains the fulcrum of a wheel. Smoothness and much of the rigidity depend precisely on the hub (and the spokes). Vision's new PRS technology ensures a better spoke engagement angle. A 72° angle makes the wheel smooth, comfortable, and aerodynamic again. These are the details that make the difference. And speaking of spokes: these are flat, double-butted stainless steel spokes, and are Made in Italy.

These two sets are guaranteed for life (on the first purchase).
