Pro MX, simple, intuitive and precise
Un power meter integrated into the pedals, as in the case of Pro MX, brings some significant advantages. The first is linked to the fact of being able to move the same pedals from one bike to another, from MTB to gravel and even on cyclocross bikes. Compatibility is universal and the only operation required is related to the calibration (via the Favero Assioma app) of the system after assembly. To engage the pedal to the crankset, a 15mm wrench is sufficient. It should be noted that The Pro MXs have a factory calibration. What does it mean? No need to calibrate the power meter at every output, a great advantage, also synonymous with data repeatability.
In addition to a purpose-built construction, aimed at protecting the detection technology, which also affects the Axiom's longevity, the meter Pro MX is equipped with IAV Power System (acronym for Instant Angular Velocity). It's a sort of internal protocol to the pedal that goes to to calm down all those irregularities in pedaling (also useful when using oval chainrings) typical and completely normal when pedaling especially in an off-road context (and also on the road).


Wattage is not rated
The detection is not estimated. If the power is the result of the force multiplied by speed, a constant and precise reading of the two variables is essential for the accuracy of the final data. Strength and its variation during the athletic gesture are measured with the strain gauge deformation (completely integrated inside the pin). The gyroscope instead has the task of reading the instantaneous and therefore real angular velocity (including its variations). Considering that most of the power meters on the market base the detection on the average angular velocity, theAssioma Pro MX is a clear step forward in terms of precision and repeatability of numbers. Repeatability, a sort of watchword that is by no means a given, but necessary when the training becomes specific.
Axiom Pro MX It features Bluetooth connectivity for smartphones and the dedicated app. It uses ANT+ data transmission to connect to devices (Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead, Bryton, and others).




Electronics and technology, all in the pivot
The pedal pin is the heart and the brain, everything is hidden inside. At the official launch of Axiom Pro MX, we were struck by the statement of Erika Martinazzo of Favero Electronics.

The electronics and battery are enclosed within the pin. Furthermore, the battery has a dedicated location that allows it to be recharged without external ports, which are more delicate and subject to greater degradation. In terms of longevity and reliability The integrated battery offers significant advantages in terms of detection. For charging, there are two contact points with specific charging pins, a matter of reliability and durability, but also of safeguarding the entire system.


Two versions (plus one)
There are two versions, Pro MX-2 that is, the one with the power meter on both pedals (the one we tested) and Assioma Pro MX-1 with the power meter integrated only in the left pedal (opposite the chainring). An upgrade is also available that allows you to transform the MX-1 into an MX-2. The list prices are 749, 449 euros and 430 euros respectively for the upgrade kit. There is the compatibility with SPD cleats, not a simple detail.
Many hours of use
It is difficult to quantify the hours of use of our Assioma Pro MX-2Mud and debris, dust and rain (lots of it), but also numerous washes. The quality of the construction and the use of top-quality materials (and a tool designed to last) are also confirmed by these details, which are anything but minor. The pedals (and power meter) were used 80% of the time in gravel riding, the remaining 20% in cyclocross.
Excellent battery life (detected over 60 hours for each single charge) which has not changed over the months and has not suffered any drop in performance even in environments with a high percentage of humidity. Excellenthermetic sealing of the entire through pin (bearings included), easy to disassemble and check for lubrication.






Electronics and dirt, it can be done
Although accessible from many points of view, not least the economic one, theAssioma Pro MX is equipped with excellent electronics, also suitable for mud and dust environments. It is one precision instrument, training and dedicated to all those who want to monitor specific training.
However, through some functions, it is possible increase the quality of training and evaluate (together with a person expert in biomechanics and pedaling dynamics) the position on the bike and how our body performs with that setting. This means that with the appropriate functions, which can also be configured on the device, it is possible to see (in real time or after training) the balance between the right and left leg, the cyclist's position on the bike (rider position function) and keep the power phase under control. The latter in particular helps us to evaluate the percentages between push and pull, thus allowing us to iron out some gaps and at the same time improve the management of force during pedaling (or maybe monitor any recovery phases after a forced stop).
Through some dedicated screens of the Garmin (but also through the Favero Assioma app), you can also use the PCO function (platform center offset), a very useful innovation also for the purposes of correct positioning of the cleatIf the PP (power phase) allows us to analyze the traction and push phases of the leg, PCO identifies the distribution of force on the pedal strokeWe are not arguing about marginal gains, but about advantages offered by electronics (the good one) easily usable in modern cycling.
