EthicSport support

On such hot days, where everything is concentrated in a maximum effort within eleven to twelve minutes, every detail is extremely important. Nutrition and supplementation play an important role, because kids today need to have their batteries charged..

EthicSport has been working alongside the Biesse-Carrera athletes since last year, a collaboration that is based on solid foundations. D'Amato (opening photo) descends the steps and climbs onto his bike, carrying a bag of ice on his shoulders, and speaks. The time trial is the starting point, but the riders are expected to face much more demanding tests, which require other supplies and a different supplementation.

First of all, before a short time trial like this one (9,4 kilometers), what products do you use?

During the warm-up, which today lasts about 45 minutes, I consume a water bottle with Super Dextrin. The intake is about sixty grams of carbohydrates, also considering a good breakfast first. Then I take a couple of gels: the first is the caffeine-free Super Dextrin and then one of Quick Energy this time with caffeine, 100 milligrams.

But what about when you're in a road race?

I always put a dose of Super Dextrin in my water bottle, Now with the heat in the other one I put some salts, usually a Super Hydro tabIn the first two hours of running I eat some bars Energy, which provide 25 grams of carbohydrates each. In the early stages of running I consume 100 grams of carbohydrates per hourA bottle of Super Dextrin containing 50 grams of carbohydrates and two bars to round out the package.

In the final stages?

When the race heats up, obviously we're talking about road races and not time trials, I switch to gels. Our races last about four hours on average, from the second onwards I prefer liquid supplementationIn the final two hours of the race I take four gel Caffeine-free Super Dextrin, which provide 27 grams of sugar each. To them I add one, maximum two Quick Energy gels, which instead have caffeine.

For training, when you do long runs, do you also simulate the race in terms of nutrition?

I also have to keep my stomach trained for carbohydrate consumption, so I always stay around 60-70 grams per hour. A little less than I do in competition, but still a good amount. In this case too I take the various gels, always in the same quantities.

And on unloading days?

My recovery workouts last about an hour and a half, two at most. I carry one or two bars with me to consume as needed., to always maintain a good level of integration.

When is the workout shorter but more intense?

In that case I go with gel, they don't weigh down the stomach and simulate the final phase of a race.

Post-race recovery?

Here at the Giro we will recover with proteins and amino acids, as products we use the Extreme Recovery and XTR protein isolates. The first one per dose, i.e. 50 grams, has 36 grams of carbohydrates of which 25 grams are sugars. XTR, on the other hand, provides 22 grams of protein per 30-gram serving.
