After the Giro d'Italia Women's cycling raced in support of Antonia Niedermaier, who almost spoiled Demi Vollering's party by finishing just 30 seconds behind the pink jersey, Soraya Paladin has recently resumed training with the goal of winning the Italian championship in Pordenone. (June 28), which the triple climb of Caneva Castle will certainly make exciting. A 3,3 kilometre climb, broken up by a change in gradient, which is well suited to the Treviso-based Canyon-Sram rider, because It somehow reminds us of the Liège and Flèche Wallonne climbs. on which he also worked this year for Kasia Niewiadoma.

When he's at home and it's about preparing for those races, its reference is however the Wall of Ca' del Poggio, which reminds her of the one in Huy (Opening image: tornanti.cc) Because ultimately, walls are all alike: they're short and forbidding, and at certain moments even the shadows fall behind. The Venetian wall has already established a twinning with the Flemish Wall of Geraardsbergen and the French Mur de Bretagne, but according to Soraya it must also have some degree of kinship with the Mur d'Huy.

The fact remains that for cyclists in that corner of the Treviso area, Ca' del Poggio remains a point of reference: a training ride and a place to leave the bike outside and enjoy lunch or dinner in friendly territory.

"I don't remember the first time I rode up there," Paladin says. "I was definitely little. It's always been an iconic climb, but perhaps my most vivid memory is when Every Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve, we go up for an aperitifIt's a tradition for all the riders in the area; you go for a ride and every time you stop there for refreshments. I live in San Marino now, but I remember it was a regular event every year. Stocco was also one of the first, if not the first, to believe so much in cycling and that the hotel and restaurant sector could be connected to it».

Soraya Paladin, born in 1993, has been riding for Canyon-Sram since 2022. She was a member of the Italian national team at the Olympics and World Championships.

The Double Tour

After years of important achievements and achievements, 2026 was the year of that Wall. The 28 May, the passage of the Giro d'Italia in the Pieve di Soligo stage he made it a noisy, colourful and steep stadiumThat day, trying to find our way through the thousands of fans waiting for the group, we felt their drive. While three days later it was the turn of the Giro d'Italia Women's cycling, who climbed it far from the finish in the second stage from Roncade to Caorle.

«I remember being a bit nervous – recalls Soraya Paladin – before taking Ca' del Poggio, because everyone knows that it's a challenging climb anyway. Since it was far from the finish, I enjoyed it and I liked itThere weren't as many people as there were on Men's Day, but there weren't a few of them either. Around there, when a big race passes by, there's always an excuse to celebrate. There were many kids and my sister was there too, she had organized a party with her friends, So they were there too. It was fun.

«Three or four years ago I happened to go to see the professionals and the fun part was waiting for the passage. Even though the Wall is steep, the The guys are still very fast so the passage lasts two or three minutes, but I remember that the party before and after was very nice».

Even without a bike

Soraya says she is grew up ten kilometers from there and that especially now that she lives far away, those places are almost a place of memory that is beautiful to return to, rediscovering family, memories, and the voices of friends.

“It’s a really beautiful area,” he admits, “because aside from the bike routes, the whole panorama is beautiful when you’re there. It's full of vineyards and greenery, you eat well, you drink well, so it's always a pleasure, even if not on a bike, to do a tour of Ca' del Poggio and the Prosecco hills. One might say that it's almost better without a bike. (laughs heartily because we understand where he's going with this, ed.), at most with an electric one, that's it! They were good at investing too on the bicycle seen not only as a sporting object, but as a way to enjoy a holiday, visiting some very beautiful areas."

The summer at Ca' del Poggio has just begun and there is certainly no shortage of events. Enrico Mantovanelli was just talking about it yesterday. a Sunday of ice lollies and Autozai-Contri riders, but more generally the early hours of the day and those at dusk are the opportunity for many cyclists to climb up there and cast their gaze towards the sea which on the clearest days can be recognised on the horizonBetween pedals and pleasure, after the hubbub of the two Giro d'Italias, the Prosecco vineyards have begun to breathe again to the rhythm of the season. When harvest time arrives, anyone who chooses to visit the area will be able to witness the great magic repeat itself.
